Black Lives Matter

"Black Lives Matter" is a phrase and movement that began in 2013 after the killing of Trayvon Martin. It argues that Black people have historically been treated as if their lives matter less than others, especially when it comes to police violence, unfair treatment in schools, work, and daily life. Supporters use the phrase to call for equal safety, dignity, and justice for Black people, saying it does not mean only Black lives matter, but that they should matter just as much as anyone else’s.
